Executive Director at Scouts for Equality
LGBTQ rights activist Zach Wahls is the author of "My Two Moms: Lessons of Love, Strength and What Makes a Family" and the founder of Scouts for Equality. In 2011, he addressed the Iowa House Judiciary Committee in opposition to a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. His name might sound familiar to you because the video of that speech instantly went viral, eventually topping YouTube list of most-watched political videos of 2011. Wahls also spoke at the Democratic National Convention in 2012. He has served as the Family Equality Council's co-chair for The Outspoken Generation program. Also in 2012, he founded the advocacy group Scouts for Equality, fighting for equal treatment within the Boy Scouts of America for all scouts and scout leaders, regardless of sexual orientation. In the summer of 2014, he completed an internship at the White House.
